Eating Healthy to Feel Better

Eating healthy is a crucial component for managing or healing any health condition through a holistic health approach. The standard American diet is filled with chemicals like pesticides and herbicides, sugar, preservatives, hormones, additives and a bunch of other non-nutritious junk that has a detrimental effect on the human body and mind and crucial changes in the diet should be made.

The rise in health conditions like type II diabetes, obesity, heart disease and pretty much any illness you can think of is related either directly or indirectly to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. Young girls are developing breasts and beginning their menstrual periods at an alarmingly early age and it is believed by many researchers that this is the result of the massive doses of hormones that is present in our meat supply. An alarming number of children, adolescents and adults are dependent on prescription drugs to control biochemical problems like hyperactivity, depression, attention deficit and anxiety that are also related to the lack of adequate nutrients in the diet or the presence of toxic chemicals.

Most people are not eating healthy, their diet is lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables, and they don’t ingest adequate levels of fiber or healthy and sufficient levels of fat and protein. Instead they are eating a bunch of empty calorie food that is void of any nutritional value and leads to a variety of health problems regardless of what age you are. We are being deprived of even the most basic vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients that the human body needs to function and stay healthy.

When living with any chronic health condition it is essential to give your body all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients you can and avoid any toxic substances that will put additional burden on the body. Although complete healing may not be achieved, at the very least you’ll find that you feel better, reduce symptoms and have a higher level of functioning, which improves the quality of your life. Here are a few basic steps you can take to get you on the right track:

The first and most important step in eating healthy is to remove white, refined sugar from your diet. White sugar is probably the most detrimental food you can possibly eat and is a leading contributor in most common health problems. Healing can not take place in a body that is being poisoned with sugar. White sugar is not a food, it is a chemical that weakens the immune system, depletes the body of vitamins and minerals, destroys the endocrine system and not only perpetuates addiction, but sets one up for it. If you only make one change in your diet this is the one to make.

  • Removed refined foods

Right next to sugar comes white flour and all the refined products that are made with it like noodles and bread. It along with sugar contains no nutritional value and contributes nothing to your health. Switch over to natural whole food sweeteners like agave, fruit juice, organic maple syrup, barley malt, rice syrup or stevia. Use whole grain products instead of white flour.

  • Eat organic

Add lots of fresh organic vegetables and fruits to your menu. Organic food should be part of every healthy eating plan, because it’s essential to avoid burdening your body with chemicals and toxins that wreck havoc on the immune system, endocrine system and nervous system. Eat fresh organic meat and healthy fats on a regular basis. We have been programmed to believe that meat and fat are unhealthy for us, but that is not true. The human body needs animal protein and healthy fats to get adequate levels of amino acids and other essential nutrients. Meat and fat should not be eaten in excess, however they should not be eliminated completely either.

  • Drink pure filtered water and avoid alcohol, sodas, coffee and other caffeine products.

Alcohol, soda and caffeine offer nothing nutritious for the body and only contribute to further deterioration. The average water supply coming out of the tap is contaminated with toxic chemicals like prescription drugs, arsenic, pesticides, heavy metals and chlorine. Drinking water should not contain chlorine. It, too has a detrimental effect on the human mind and body and has been linked to a long list of health conditions including headaches, dry skin, gastrointestinal disorders, birth defects, cancer and heart disease.

  • Identify Hidden Food Sensitivities

A healthy diet for one may be completely unhealthy for another. Many people have hidden food sensitivities or allergies that have a negative effect on their health. By identifying your sensitivities and removing these foods from your diet, significant improvements in both emotional and physical health can be made. The ALCAT food sensitivity test can be used to assist you in this process.

Regardless of your particular diagnosis, making changes to a healthier diet can be nothing but beneficial. No matter what health condition you live with by eating a cleaner, more nutritious diet you’ll help your body to function more optimally, encourage healing and alleviate undesirable symptoms.

Changing the diet is one of the easiest and most fundamental steps for any healing program. However, eating healthy does require a good deal of self-discipline, determination and commitment.
